It is very unlikely that the new HTC 10.1-inch tablet will be the next iPad-killer. The slate which was recently referred to as HTC Puccini is now available on AT&T under the name HTC Jetstream, but unfortunately, it is priced at a whopping $699.99 with a two-year contract, with $35/month for 3GB, or $849 free of contract. With these unebelievably high prices, it doesn't look like this will be the most popular slate of them all.
Sure, the slate does pack some impressive feats, which may very well explain these ridiculous prices, but still, we find that the pricing is a bit exaggerated. The tablet features a 10.1-inch WXGA screen with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels and comes installed with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon dual-core processor, which brings it in front of its competitors which usually have 1GHz dual-core processors. It runs Android Honeycomb 3.1 and comes with the latest HTC Sense.
You can count on 32GB of internal storage, plus a microSD card slot for further expanding possibilities. There's also 1GB of RAM installed, a front-facing 1.3MP camera and a rear-facing 8MP camera. The battery life is quite impressive as well, it's estimated at 12 hours of browsing, thanks to its 7300mAh battery. If you liked the stylus that comes with the HTC Flyer, then you can rejoice, because HTC decided to include the stylus with the Jetstream slate as well.
The tablet is not exactly the lightest or slimmest device out there, at 13mm in thickness and 709 grams, it's clearly not the most portable slate on the market. It remains to be seen how much popularity this new 10-inch tablet will have, but the current price point doesn't indicate much success. If you want an affordable Honeycomb tablet with reasonable specs, then the Jetstream is clearly not in your price range.
